Mark Johnson

About us.

how we started.

Growing up on a ranch in New Mexico, Mark Johnson was born with horses in his blood.  When he moved to Maryland after he married Jessie, he knew he wanted to recreate the life he had known in his present.

What started as a personal pursuit to be with horses and give his children the childhood he had, Mark started Golden Sunset Ranch: reminiscent of his life in New Mexico.

Soon, he realized the western world in Maryland was missing the central gathering place where people could have access to the resources and recreational opportunities they wanted.  Golden Sunset continued to grow, expanding it’s family and embracing all kinds of professionals and clientele with a wide range of interests and pursuits to become the welcoming, all-encompassing piece of Heaven it is today.

-No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle. – Winston Churchill. –

A Place For Everyone

A little something for everyone.
A lot of things for all of us.

Everyone has different dreams, different interests and different goals but there’s one thing we ALL share – a love for horses!

Mark wanted to create a location where everyone who loved horses could come together and fulfill all of their dreams and interests.

That meant bringing together many different kinds of professionals, clinicians, and resident trainers.
We all benefit from learning from others and Mark has always wanted to foster an environment where we can share our passions, and recognize what we share – a love for equines.

Everyone is welcome; everyone is valued; all horses are loved.

Our Team

Only the Best

Mark Johnson

Bring the quality.

Mark wanted the best of the best, because he wants what’s best for the horse!  All trainers and professionals have demonstrated that they are true horsemen and care about doing what’s right for the horse.

The horse you get off is not the same as the horse you got on. It is your job as a rider to ensure that as often as possible, the change is for the better.
