Mark Johnson started Golden Sunset with a dream to do what he loved – discover the hidden gem in every horse and make them shine! Â
Since he started, Mark has helped thousands of horses and their owners find a path to accomplish more than they thought they could, regardless of their interests. Â
Mark has put together a team and place that encourages both horse and rider to love their time together and make every moment count when at the Ranch!
We’re on a 250 acre ranch with clean stalls, lots of outdoor space, and lots of places to ride.
We work hard and play hard and take care of our animals.
We have full-time and part-time trainers that do a little bit of everything. Â
Whether you just want to have fun or want to compete, we’ve got a program for you.
We have an active group of folks so something is always going on. Â
Look for activities, events, and regular lesson blocks for special interests.
Part of having a good horse is providing it great care. Mark prides himself on running a professional barn. Everyone works hard to make sure every horse is cared for.
We have nationally acclaimed instructors from all over the United States. We're family friendly and will help the youngest, all the way up to the professional.
We host an array of events twice monthly. Join us for clinics, roping, mounted shooting, barrel racing and more Something is always happening at Golden Sunset.
Mark grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico on his family’s cattle ranch. He became a star of the rodeo early on, trained and broke horses on the Double D Ranch in Midland, Texas and spent five years as Head Overseer at one of the biggest cattle ranches in Hawaii.
He moved to Maryland when he married his wife, Jessie, where they have raised 4 children and have 2 grandchildren who are often at the ranch.
Mark has an amazing touch with horses and is always willing to lend a helping hand with whatever problem you may encounter.
Earle teaches natural horsemanship lessons so that you can develop a better relationship with your horse.
Amanda lives on site and handles all day-to-day operations at the ranch. She also teaches introductory lessons and runs the youth program.
Casey teaches roping, barrel racing, mounted shooting and runs our drill team.
Andy coaches the show team at the barn and gives individual lessons in roping, barrel racing, and halter class.
You'll start to see lots of new faces around the barn on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Give them all a warm welcome and make sure to extend a helping hand!
The drill team will be practicing every Sunday from 9-10:30AM. The large outdoor will be closed during this time.
We're asking all borders to monitor their horse's feet for problems with extra mud, get out their blankets, and to notify staff if they see any areas retaining water.
Wish Jack all the best next time you see him! He'll be at the barn until November 1st. Please talk to Mark or Amanda if you need to switch to a new farrier..
Golden Sunset Ranch provides a full range of equestrian services for riders interested in competitive or pleasure western riding.
We’re a family-friendly place who values hard work and hard play. Come join us!
